Good vs. Bad Art

What defines "good" art? I believe in order for art to be considered good, it must convey a meaning. Every piece of artwork has a subliminal context which the viewer must interpret alone. Stark contrast of colors and strong composition make up works which I consider to be good. I also believe good art to take form in paintings in which the artist describes an emotion or mental state of being. For example, paintings with vivid shapes and colors describing the psychedelic experience are in my opinion works of good art.

Bad art, in my opinion, are pieces that are overly aggressive in portraying a certain attitude. Another example of bad art is when a piece has no true composition, meaning the artist's arrangement of line, shape, and color is random. Some would say that everything man creates is art. I disagree with this statement. If a piece is in an art gallery, that does not automatically make it art. For example, Duchamp's Fountain is a piece of bad art. It is merely an upside down urinal, but since it is placed in a gallery, it must have some type of meaning. I couldn't agree less with the previous sentence. Pieces that depict modern technology will never be good artworks in my opinion. I believe art that represents what a person uses can not be compared to art which describes emotions.
